Summary
The Division of Enforcement conducts investigations into possible violations of the federal securities laws, and prosecutes the Commission's civil suits in the federal courts as well as in its administrative proceedings.
This position is located in New York, NY.

Typical duties include:
Develop and implement tools and techniques, using Python and database management systems, such as SZQL Server, Oracle and Neteeza, to more accurately and rapidly detect unlawful fraudulent activity affecting the U.S. securities markets for microcap securities, including pump-and-dump schemes and market manipulations;
Conduct detailed analysis of large data sets associated with potential fraudulent activity, such as trading records, telephone records, IP addresses, and server logs;
Perform asset tracing;
Develop and maintain expertise with SEC tools and resources, including tools to mine social media and to scrape the internet for evidence of microcap fraud;
Work on microcap-related investigations and projects within the Microcap Fraud Task Force and throughout the Enforcement Division, including assistance in identifying and obtaining key data and interviewing witnesses;
Identify trends and patterns across a wide-range of fraudulent microcap-related activity;
Coordinate, liaise, and represent the Microcap Fraud Task Force in connection with areas of their responsibility, and carry the requisite authority as team leader on projects.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
SK-14: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-13 level: Specialized experience includes ALL of the following:
(1) conducting complex microcap fraud analysis;
(2) developing tools and resources to detect unlawful fraudulent activity affecting the market for microcap securities;
(3) conducting detailed analysis of large data sets associated with potential fraudulent activity; and
(4) identifying trends and patterns across a wide-range of microcap fraud investigations.
