HEAD OF CENTRAL SUPERVISION

OVERVIEW

The Head of Central Supervision serves as the Designated Supervisor of the Central Supervision Unit (CSU), which provides supervisory support for overseeing the sales activities of the firm’s Financial Advisors (FAs). In addition to managing the CSU Department, responsibilities for this position include communicating regularly with FAs regarding company policies and industry regulations and serving as an expert resource on supervisory questions and issues.

A trusted independent partner of all Davenport stakeholders, the CSU Department promotes business growth through the application of effective supervisory controls.  A key mission of CSU is to provide practical, consistent, and effective risk guidance that is grounded in a deep understanding of both the firm’s business goals and the industry’s regulatory environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage CSU staff, including hiring, training, mentoring, performance evaluations and correction action.

  • Supervise sales activities:

    • Reviewing daily trade blotters, correspondence (electronic and hard copy), and other materials as required.

    • Review exception reports and various other daily, monthly, and ad hoc reports as needed to monitor for compliance with industry regulations.

    • Investigate questionable transactions and take corrective actions that may require Branch Manager, FA and/or client contact.

    • Provide supervision across firm branch network.

  • Answer supervisory questions from FAs and Branch Managers.

  • Supervise, monitor, and document FAs who require special or heightened supervision.

  • Maintain written supervisory branch and CSU procedures and all related controls for the CSU Department.

  • Work with Senior Departmental Management on implementation of regulatory and supervisory changes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eight or more years’ experience in the securities industry in compliance and/or supervision.

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Required FINRA licenses: Series 7, Series 8 (or Series 9/10), Series 24, Series 53, and Series 66 (or Series 63 & Series 65). Note that a Series 24, 4 and 53 may be substituted for the Series 8 or Series 9/10 requirement.

  • Life and Health Insurance License.

  • Extensive working knowledge of FINRA, SEC, MSRB and ERISA rules & regulations as they apply to both broker-dealers and registered investment advisors.

  • Thorough understanding of securities products, insurance products (including variable annuities, equity indexed annuities and fixed annuities), and investment advisory programs.

  • Ability to gather, analyze and display data.

  • Maintain accurate records.

  • Ability to analyze business needs and develop policies to meet those needs.

  • Effective and creative decision making process.

  • Ability to lead and manage a team of supervisory professionals.

  • Excellent professional oral and written communication skills.

  • Organizational and time management skills (e.g., ability to effectively manage multiple priorities).

  • Project management capabilities.

  • Experience in retail branch operations a plus.
