Job Description and Duties

This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 20% of base salary.

The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Investment Officer III on the Investment Compliance team.

The Investment Compliance team's goal is to support the Investment Branch by providing principle-based recommendations and safeguarding the assets of our members. The primary function is to monitor and implement compliance and ethics activities that enable the Investment Branch to comply with a comprehensive system of policies, processes and procedures designed to prevent, detect and reduce risks which is supported by a culture of integrity.

Under the direction of the Associate Portfolio Manager, the Investment Officer lll, CalSTRS operates as a high- level specialist and responsible to perform the most complex assignments that require a high level of expertise for the Investments Compliance program. As the lead the incumbent is responsible for providing investment, financial and operational expertise to staff and leadership. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible to monitor and implement compliance and ethics activities that enable the Investment Branch to comply with a comprehensive system of policies, processes and procedures designed to prevent, detect and reduce risks which is supported by a culture of integrity.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Knowledge of regulations and compliance related to investments

  • Knowledge of investment accounting and investment life cycle

  • Knowledge of due diligence process from a compliance perspective

  • Experience working in investment and financial markets

  • Experience with portfolio management order system, Aladdin or similar

  • Experience working with master custodians

  • Experience with broker dealers and investment advisors

  • Experience working with regulatory agencies (SEC, Department of Treasury, OFAC, FINRA)

  • Experience working with Bloomberg

  • Experience leading a group of people or a project

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of staff and management.

  • Ability to apply excellent time management skills used for efficient completion of projects; prioritize competing assignments; and meet deadlines

An incumbent who possesses a professional certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

Telework Information: We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento 2-3 days per week.
