Director of Compliance

Location: Dallas, Chicago or New York City
MCR , a recently registered investment Adviser (RIA) under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, is seeking a seasoned compliance professional to take a senior role in our compliance department.
This position will be responsible for undertaking day-to day compliance activities, as well as developing, implementing, communicating, and reviewing corporate policies, procedures, trends, and systems to enable MCR to effectively manage risk and remain in compliance with applicable regulatory authorities.
The position will initially report to the Chief Compliance Officer, currently the General Counsel, but a long-term path to the CCO role will be available for a motivated and high performing candidate.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Support all RIA compliance activities to effectively manage and mitigate risk, manage proper controls, support business initiatives and protects the company from legal and regulatory risk.
Monitor and execute firm compliance policies including proposed revisions in response to changing regulations and industry trends.
Counsel executive management and other adviser employees regarding compliance requirements and procedures.
Help prepare for and participate in audits and inspections.
Support the review of advertising material, sales literature, and correspondence for internal teams.
Leverage and manage outside counsel and consultants to support compliance activities.
Create and deliver annual internal compliance training classes.
Assist with management of and responses to regulatory inquiries.
Consult with investment, capital formation, investor relations, finance and accounting and other departments on compliance, supervision, management, and related issues.
Research regulations and communicate any findings with the management team, field advisors, their office staff, and internal employees.
Required Skills
4-7 years’ experience working in a compliance department for an RIA
Experience in the real estate investment fund industry is highly preferred
Familiarity with using and administering compliance management systems including Star Compliance and Smarsh electronic communications monitoring.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, presentation and analytical skills, including an ability to build relationships with the highest-level executives.
Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Ability to work well under limited supervision and connect with colleagues in other locations.
Proficiency with standard office software and technology.
